Two routes for tomorrow (Sun 10th April)

  • People are understandably keen to get back in time to see the cobbled sections of Paris-Roubaix tomorrow. There was talk of a fast group setting off at 8am, but this has now been abandoned. The faster fast group should be led by Barnaby and Soren and plan to do about 64 miles on this route out round Hanningfield Reservoir: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12290106

. I'm planning to hang onto the back of them for the first ten miles or so and then ease off and do a shorter version of the route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/13020874

which should be about 50 miles. Happy for that to be a fastish-but-not-quite-so-fast group if others want to do the same. Who knows, they may even catch me up again on the return leg if they really put the hammer down (or a mechanical strikes). I'm hoping to be back in Walthamstow by about 12:15.

  • Would it be alright to join a group next Sunday? I'm not sure what sort of pace the fast and faster fast group roll at but hopefully I can slot in somewhere!

  • Hi - that would be fine. A glance at Strava says the fastest group went at nearly 20mph today, the next group (my one) went just under 18mph, and another group went at about 15mph. Depending on who's around, there is sometimes a slower one than that as well.

  • Hmmm, I think the two fast groups are a bit optimistic for me. Glad to hear there are slower options! Does anyone ride fixed wheel in the club? I'm hoping the 15mph group will be alright. No doubt I'll have some catching up to do after a downhill section at least!

  • Actually, apparently we had four groups yesterday - there were two slower groups (so I think one was going under 15mph). Everyone was waiting for me, so when I arrived at the town hall at about 9:05 both fast groups left immediately and I didn't get a chance to see who else was there and what they were up to.

  • Hi there, I am new to the area, and came across the forum. Im currently trying to get my miles up ahead of a couple of long rides in the summer, and not really knowing any other cyclists locally, I thought Id see if I could join you guys on some of your sunday morning rides?..Im obviously not a member, but read on another thread about a social membership? Id be more than happy to join up etc! Thanks!

  • I came late (shed door broke - don't ask) so only just got there in time for the slower group. We did split into three.

One split happened right away at the tea hut - 8 of us went for a pace which was around 16mph and another went more like 13/14mph.

My group then split again towards the end of the ride with most continuing with the same pace but a couple having a more leisurely ride back.

Generally we work with who is there and what they can do and find a pace that works for all.

We had five new riders with us this week which is fantastic!

  • Come along Josh - the more the merrier!

We meet on Sunday at 9am just outside the Town Hall in Walthamstow. We then have a very quick discussion about who wants to do what pace and off we go. Generally the rides tend to be between 45-60miles with three or so different pace groups suited to whoever is there and what they fancy doing.

Come along - see how you like it and you can then join on the British Cycling website.

  • Thanks Chrystyna, I might be slightly pushed to come along this sunday, but I will try to make it. If not, definitely the following sunday! Thanks again, and see you soon

  • Hey guys, just wondering if there will be a group ride on sunday morning? Im keen to get involved if so...

  • Yes, there should be Josh

  • Probably using this route, by the way: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/13293791
