• Rather than starting a new thread every week or so, it's probably best if we just post the route (and any associated discussion) on one thread each week. So here goes. This Sunday the fast and/or medium-fast groups will be using this route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/13722640

  • John & Tony are planning a club run up to the club's reunion event this Sunday. Leaving, as usual, from the Town Hall at 9am, second pick up at the green hut at High Beach around 9.45, then heading up through Roydon, Stanstead Abbots, Much Hadham, the Pelhams, Stansted Mountfitchet and finally to the HQ in Burton End (near Stansted Airport). I think the idea is to get a train back. Details of the reunion here: https://leavalleycc.microcosm.app/conversations/287916/

  • Anders and I are planning on riding a longer/semi-faster route up to the reunion as a bit of pre-Ride London training. Something like this: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14911307

It's about 50 miles from the tea hut and we'll be aiming for something like a 16mph average. Hopefully we'll be riding back too, possibly taking a more direct route depending on time. Will be setting off from the tea hut at 9:45 if anyone wants to join.

  • Route for the fast / medium-fast group(s) tomorrow (hopefully avoiding all the loose chippings that Essex County Council have just chucked down): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15133268

  • Still lots of loose chippings in Essex, so we're heading out to Hertfordshire tomorrow. The route is about 60 miles (to/from the Town Hall). On the way up we'll be going left at the lights at Wood St and heading up through Chingford, down Daws Hill, up Mott Street, brief stop at High Beach (green tea hut) to possibly pick up anyone who wants to join us there (circa 9:45), then out via Epping and eventually to Broxbourne to begin our loop. Return leg goes down to Waltham Abbey, but then detours to the left so we can climb Claypit Hill (you know you want to) before returning to High Beach and then down the Epping New Road to home. Download the route from here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15297754

  • Very late notice, but this is the route for tomorrow (as used a few weeks ago when Mr Veitch was cursed with three punctures): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15133268

  • Late notice again, route for the fast group here, possible cafe stop in Blackmore if people want it: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16005963

  • A bit different from usual tomorrow. Club president, John Summerhayes, is leading the traditional 'Summerhayes Summer Saunter' August Bank Holiday ride. Rather than riding down to the south coast and getting a train back, it has been decided to avoid the vagaries of the current Southern Rail service and do a car-assisted ride instead. John can squeeze up to five people and bikes into his car - if you're going, meet at the Town Hall (usual place: Forest Road, Walthamstow) at 8:45am. The plan is to drive up to the race HQ at Ugley (near Stansted Airport) ready to start a long social ride heading out towards Maldon and back. Details here: https://leavalleycc.microcosm.app/events/2116/

The fast group/groups are divided tomorrow. Some of the very fastest are heading out at stupid o'clock in the morning on the 'Dad's club' ride (needing to get back very early for family duties). That leaves the rest of us probably going at a slightly more reasonable pace (think 18mph, instead of last week's >19mph). As one member has his engagement party to get back for, this ride is going to be a bit shorter than usual: just 45 miles with the aim of being back before 12pm. No cafe stop this week. Meet at the town hall at 9:00am. Route here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16170664

  • Dad's route leaving 7:30am from The Castle pub by Woodford Green: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16171147

  • Route for the faster group(s) tomorrow: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16330222

  • The plan tomorrow is to use the same route that we used 3 weeks ago (with optional cafe stop in Blackmore on the return leg): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16005963

  • Hello I am new to the area and was wondering if it would be possible to come out on a club run this Sunday? Steven

  • You're welcome to, Steven, though numbers will be a bit depleted compared to normal as we are organising a time trial that day (there should still be some people out and about though)

  • Hi, I spoke to someone on your FB page recently and was looking to join you for a ride this Sunday. am i right in saying you meet at Walthamstow Town Hall, roll out at 9am? Matt.

  • That's right. There has been some talk of riding down to catch bits of either or both of the Catford Hill Climb (on Yorks Hill) and/or the Bec Hill Climb (on Titsey Hill). Someone posted this route that they had ridden in the past: https://ridewithgps.com/trips/11258085

The problem is that some people need to get back much earlier than could possibly be managed (that route is 60 miles - but that's starting and finishing in Greenwich, not Walthamstow, plus a lot of the riding is through urban South London and won't be that fast). So there's also been talk of riding down and getting a train back. Nothing agreed yet. Watch this space!

  • Don't think the mooted Catford/Bec ride is happening (unless Tom is still planning to head down there?) - too many people battling colds who can't face the distance and climbing involved. It would be a good route to do another time, though. Tomorrow I'm going to do this route at a gentler pace than normal (been off the bike due to illness for a bit - the last few club rides I did before that were at about 19mph, will be hoping for 17-17.5mph tomorrow): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/16005963

  • Proposed route for the faster ride tomorrow: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/7043496

Yet again might not be the quickest as a few colds going around but we'll see how we go.

  • Proposed route for the faster group rides(s) tomorrow:
    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12046119

  • Looks like being a wet one tomorrow with a bit of a headwind on the return leg. Because of the conditions, I'll be looking to do a shorter one than usual: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/17751574

  • David is planning to take the fastest on a slightly longer route (which overlaps with the one above a bit) that doesn't go out via High Beach: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/17754864

  • A lot of people feeling under the weather at the moment, so there shouldn't be a chaingang tomorrow charging off at 19-20mph. Looks more like a 'B' group doing about 17-18mph and probably a 'C' group going slower than that. We're planning to use this route, going up to High Beech for a second pick-up via the dreaded climb of Mott Street. There's the possibility of a cafe stop in Blackmore on the way back, but we'll see who actually wants to do that. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14042931

  • Trying that route again this Sunday ^ (and hopefully not getting diverted at Fyfield again). Going to try for designated riders in an A group (fast, chaingang, no stop - Barnaby), B group (moderate 17-18mph, probably coffee stop - me) and C group (more like 15-16mph, no leader yet).

  • So looks like there won't be an A (Chaingang) ride this Sunday but I'll lead the 18mph moderate group. Adam Bishop will be leading a 'no one gets dropped' 16mph ride and the social ride leader has yet to be decided. 60 miler for the final Sunday before Christmas day.

    Route will be this:
    https://ridewithgps.com/routes/13722640

  • Normal service should resume this Sunday. Heading out into Hertfordshire. I'm happy to lead the 'B' group, route is up on Facebook looking for volunteers to lead A / C / D. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/15297754

  • Last Sunday was a washout with freezing rain - don't think anybody made it out in the end as it was so grim. The forecast is dry and sunny tomorrow, but with temperatures starting below zero and not getting much higher. A lot of us have cabin fever and are desperate to get out, but after some discussion it's been decided to avoid the country lanes as ice has been reported out there. So it's a rather unimaginative route straight up the old A11 through the forest, Epping and Harlow to a café stop in Sawbridgeworth (with a possible fast group going a bit further) then returning down exactly the same roads. It's approx. 20 miles from the town hall to Sawbridgeworth, so about 40 for the return trip. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/18620842
