I have been the Chairman for 3 years now. In our club the Chairman has a number of jobs. Along with the president, they are the “official” faces and voices of the club. Along with the secretary the chair organises the club’s admin. Along with the other committee members , I try and see that things get done and plan for the future of the club.
But what I seem to do most of is to talk and listen to members, and encourage people to join LVCC. So what I have achieved this year? Started up the process to get the race HQ refurbished, been to lots of committee meetings, helped at the Tens, various TTs and the Hill climb. Along with Steve and Jamie I keep the FB page up-to-date and produce the monthly email newsletter. We have , I think got better at communicating with member but I still think we could get better at this ; not everyone wants to be on Facebook.
We also need to be clearer to members old and new as to what you get from being a club member. So perhaps a membership card, discounts at shops and more events just for members such as Athletes Lab sessions or coaching.
I said last year that I wanted to see the club increase the number of women becoming members of the club and taking part in events. I think this has happened but we still have a way to go. Perhaps we need to carry on making small changes like meeting at a Café before club runs or running some coaching sessions for women members. Other ideas and suggestion are welcome.
How do I know if I am doing a good job? Hopefully by the club’s members electing me to serve them for another year. I knew the club has done a good job when Carsten described how he felt part of the Lea Valley family.
Finally, thanks are due to all my fellow committee members. To Kodjo who is retiring as TT sec. To Don , Gloria, Mike , Frieda, Stan and everyone else who we rely on to turn up to help with an event. Even if it means standing on a roundabout for 1hr on a cold misty autumn morning! Thank, the club could not carry on without you.
