Will try to get a video of each of the climbs (in the unlikely event there's someone who doesn't know them and wants to do this). First up, Mott Street: https://youtu.be/mEAUnwfrJGg

Several people asking about sizing (as the Milltag size guide seems to give contradictory advice). Charlie has posted this:
"More info on kit ordering:
Ed from Milltag has offered to open up the shop to let people try on garments should you wish to work out the sizing that way. This will be on Tuesday 8th March from 10am - 4pm (Can stay open a bit later if you need).
With this in mind, we may well extend the ordering window to a bit later in the week.
If you all want to go together, please organise this amongst yourselves and then Carsten will e-mail or call Milltag to let them know when you'll be coming in.
Thanks" -

Hi Mark - as requested, I've made a google docs version of the spreadsheet so that everyone can edit it to add their names in wherever they're marshalling. I've put myself down to marshall for the Comet 25. I haven't had time to sort out all the formating, someone might want to add an extra line at the top and split the names/dates of events onto two separate lines as you can't read the whole thing for some events without making the columns really wide. Hi. The racing season is fast approaching. Pedro, Barnaby, Adam and others have already started and a load of us will be doing the Hainault Hilly next Sunday, so I need to put in a hard effort tomorrow. Therefore, if we are going to have more than one fast group, I'll be going with the faster one and somebody else will have to 'volunteer' to lead the not-quite-so-fast group.
I've updated a route that we've used a couple of times before - made it a bit longer so we avoid some of the Epping New Road on the way out, and so we can swing by High Beach to see if there's anyone to pick up there, and so we can avoid the urban jungle of Epping on the way north.
A link to the route here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12349983
That's about 56 miles starting and finishing at Waltham Forest Town Hall. Depending on who's up for it, there are potentially 11 sprints on this route: 1) the end of the motorway bridge over the M11, 2) Matching Tye sign, 3) Matching Green sign, 4) Hatfield Heath sign, 5) Sheering sign, 6) Harlow sign, 7) M11 bridge again, 8) Moreton sign, 9) Toot Hill sign, 10) Theydon Bois sign, 11) two '40' signs on either side of the road at the top of Coppice Row.
I've also made a shorter version, link here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12350064
This is about 48 miles (also starting and finishing at the town hall), but turns back once you reach Matching Green (so doesn't do the loop up to Hatfield Heath and back to Old Harlow via Sheering). If there is a second fast group, they might prefer to do this one? Then the second group on the road could end up ahead of the first group on the road and we might end up merging again at some point (which would a wonderful heartwarming social occasion). -
New question: what's the best way to mount a Virb for shooting backwards? It looks like you can either get a mount to fix it to the seatpost or get a different mount to fix it to the saddle rail. I got the K-edge Combo Out Front mount last summer, which goes onto the handlebars and lets you put the Garmin on the top and the Virb underneath (upside-down) and then used the supplied adaptor to fit the Virb to that.
If got this K-edge saddle rail mount, would that be the most straightforward for transferring the Virb from the front to the back? Would I even be able to do that simply mid-ride (if I had both mounts on), or are there bits that needs to be unscrewed etc.?
Alternatively (and more cheaply), this Garmin thing says it will fit on the seat post. But I can't visualize it - how would you set it up so that it didn't hit your legs? Also, would the fact that this is made for Virb (not Go-Pro, like the front one, which is why it uses an adaptor) make it more difficult to transfer between the front and back? -

Don't know what happened last weekend as I was one of the four that headed down to Brighton, but I think numbers were lower because of Valentine's Day so not sure if we had two fast groups or just one. Anyway, numbers permitting, we should aim to do the same thing tomorrow. David, who led the 'fast-fast' group last time isn't out tomorrow, but Barnaby has suggested this route and is keen to ride it fast. I'll be on my (slower) winter bike, so happy to lead a slightly slower group if necessary.

Those 'fast' riders not heading to Brighton (probably the majority!) will be going on this route instead: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/10663299

Four of us from the 'fast group' are planning to do something a bit different and ride down to Brighton this Sunday. Here is the route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12161363
It's 76 miles. If we meet at the Town Hall at 9am as usual and leave promptly I reckon we'll get there by about 3pm to 3.30pm? Probably averaging about 17mph for the bits outside of London. I'm guessing at least a couple of hours to get clear of London, what with all the traffic lights and having to walk through the foot tunnel to Greenwich. Then there's a couple of long draggy climbs, a few brutal but short climbs, and then the big daddy of Ditchling Beacon to get over. After that you more or less freewheel down to the sea front, stop to have a look at the sea, then double back to the station. I'm probably going to take a rucksack with me and expect to stop for half an hour or so someone en route and maybe grab fish and chips in Brighton.
There are direct trains from Brighton to St Pancras going twice an hour at XX:44 and XX:14. The cheapest single tickets are only £10.50 - not sure if you have to book those in advance or not.
There should be a normal fast group (or fast and not-so-fast, depending on numbers) heading out for a normal Essex ride as well. -
Good idea, Ed, that would certainly create more interest (but it does rely on people supplying their times)
