John & Tony are planning a club run up to the club's reunion event this Sunday. Leaving, as usual, from the Town Hall at 9am, second pick up at the green hut at High Beach around 9.45, then heading up through Roydon, Stanstead Abbots, Much Hadham, the Pelhams, Stansted Mountfitchet and finally to the HQ in Burton End (near Stansted Airport). I think the idea is to get a train back. Details of the reunion here: https://leavalleycc.microcosm.app/conversations/287916/

Rather than starting a new thread every week or so, it's probably best if we just post the route (and any associated discussion) on one thread each week. So here goes. This Sunday the fast and/or medium-fast groups will be using this route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/13722640

Joe says "Another good night for racing there being a number of personal bests. I will be sending out an overall results sheet for the series in the next few days. This will cover the first 7 weeks of the series. Only 3 counting Tuesdays to go if you want to complete your 6 rides. The 11th week is two ups and solos and awards for the series (19th July). Two bottles left at the event last Tuesday which can be collected next Tuesday - one for Patrick Cycling and one Specialised.

Our annual road race is on Sunday week (26th June) and we have four LVCC riders taking part in the race who are keen to recce the course. The course is loop of about 14 miles up in northern Essex (starting / finishing at the village of Radwinter). The fast / medium-fast groups are planning to do a ride up there (starting, as usual, from the Town Hall at 9am, and passing through High Beach on the way) and then round the circuit. Some of us will then head over to the Audley End station (just outside Saffron Walden) to catch a train back to Tottenham Hale / Liverpool Street (two trains per hour, £15, takes 40-50 mins), while others are going for a really long ride and continuing all the way back to London again. The train-assisted route is about 64 miles, the 'Gran Fondo' is more like 120 miles. Some people might not be able to commit to such a long ride, but you are welcome to come with us for the first 20 miles or so and then turn back for home. Here is the planned route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/14368103

It's approx 35 miles home from Burton End. It's a little bit more than that to get to the Ugley race HQ. So realistically, if anyone is keen / mad / stupid enough to want to ride up, do the time trial, go to the reunion and then ride home, they'll be doing at least 100 miles that day. Obviously that's not impossible and some might be up for it. Those that are up for the race and either ride up OR ride back, the train to/from Bishop's Stortford might be a good way of avoiding the other leg of riding.
-
Ed - that's what the attachment said (see first post)!
Anyone reading this thread, please be aware that the 'Bill Major' 25-mile time trial takes place the same day in the morning. We're hoping lots of club members will do both - race in the morning and then unwind in the afternoon (and for the superfit, have a 35-mile ride home afterwards)

It feels like there has been a huge influx of new members over the last 2-3 years. Not so long ago the club run might have attracted just six or seven riders, we now regularly have over twenty and are able to split into two, three or even four groups going at different paces. Where once there might have just been two members racing on any given weekend, there can now be ten or more, and what's more many of them are getting decent results, even wins. The kit has been redesigned and has helped give the club a much more visible presence in East London and out on the lanes in Essex. The Tuesday Tens have never been more popular and (as long as it's not raining) can get over 90 riders taking part.
But on the other hand, the club night at the church hall is very poorly attended. In addition to this, the club puts on many races each season (considerably more than other similar-sized clubs) which means a lot of people are required for marshalling and other duties and often the organisers are left desperately scrabbling around for volunteers as race day approaches. This could well get worse in the future as some of the long-standing members who have spent many years as timekeepers and organisers are moving away.
Given all this, I thought it would be useful to get a sense of what we, as members of the club, actually want the club to do. What kind of events do people want to take part in (both cycling and social)? To what extent are members able and willing to help out at events? What kind of club runs should we have? When we know what people want, it will help us make the right decisions about what we should be doing in the future.
I've used Survey Monkey to make two surveys* to help us find out the answers to these questions. They are very easy to answer and each one will only take about one minute to answer - two minutes at most. The deadline to answer is next Sunday (12th June), please fill them in (both of them!):
Survey part one: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/RJPGXQFSurvey part two: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/RJXLZWH
*obviously I wanted to just make one survey, but it limited me to a max of ten questions per survey

Still lots of loose chippings in Essex, so we're heading out to Hertfordshire tomorrow. The route is about 60 miles (to/from the Town Hall). On the way up we'll be going left at the lights at Wood St and heading up through Chingford, down Daws Hill, up Mott Street, brief stop at High Beach (green tea hut) to possibly pick up anyone who wants to join us there (circa 9:45), then out via Epping and eventually to Broxbourne to begin our loop. Return leg goes down to Waltham Abbey, but then detours to the left so we can climb Claypit Hill (you know you want to) before returning to High Beach and then down the Epping New Road to home.
