I have been the Chairman for 3 years now. In our club the Chairman has a number of jobs. Along with the president, they are the “official” faces and voices of the club. Along with the secretary the chair organises the club’s admin. Along with the other committee members , I try and see that things get done and plan for the future of the club.
But what I seem to do most of is to talk and listen to members, and encourage people to join LVCC. So what I have achieved this year? Started up the process to get the race HQ refurbished, been to lots of committee meetings, helped at the Tens, various TTs and the Hill climb. Along with Steve and Jamie I keep the FB page up-to-date and produce the monthly email newsletter. We have , I think got better at communicating with member but I still think we could get better at this ; not everyone wants to be on Facebook.
We also need to be clearer to members old and new as to what you get from being a club member. So perhaps a membership card, discounts at shops and more events just for members such as Athletes Lab sessions or coaching.
I said last year that I wanted to see the club increase the number of women becoming members of the club and taking part in events. I think this has happened but we still have a way to go. Perhaps we need to carry on making small changes like meeting at a Café before club runs or running some coaching sessions for women members. Other ideas and suggestion are welcome.
How do I know if I am doing a good job? Hopefully by the club’s members electing me to serve them for another year. I knew the club has done a good job when Carsten described how he felt part of the Lea Valley family.
Finally, thanks are due to all my fellow committee members. To Kodjo who is retiring as TT sec. To Don , Gloria, Mike , Frieda, Stan and everyone else who we rely on to turn up to help with an event. Even if it means standing on a roundabout for 1hr on a cold misty autumn morning! Thank, the club could not carry on without you.

At the end of the season, frankly I couldn't have planned anything better. Not that I planned Anything too carefully anyway.
It proved difficult, if not virtually impossible to book the Lee Valley Velodrome for our personal use, in keeping with many other clubs. But it's turned out alright. Two female and seven males did the track accreditation last summer.not all have completed it.
Nicola Toms passed out last year and has been training and racing at Hearn Hill, Manchester, Lee Valley and the new track in ( I think it's Derby) and Martin Godfrey continued his
Accreditation at the Chris Hoy Track in Glasgow.( He now lives there). The current situation is brilliant. Nicola is racing at women's elite level, and has had one Win with a number of seconds and thirds. At the moment is in 3rd place overall in the Full Gas Series.
Paul Roberts, Carsten Meilandt and Adam Bishop have also all qualified for the Full Gas Series.
With top places in a number of events.
Only last Thurs night, Carsten and Adam were riding, lapped the majority of the field,in a group With two other riders. Carsten came 2nd, Adam I think was 7th. In their last scheduled race, that night, Adam was in 3rd position with Carsten in 6th and waiting to pounce. But with 1 lap to go.
there was a crash which involved Adam, who had nothing to do with it. Fortunately he's OK.
( I have it on video). The race was stopped, I think positions at the time may count.
So there you have it. Brilliant. They all look so professional on the track, I'm so proud, with great hopes for this season.
Don't take my word for it, come and watch em!John Summerhayes.

President's Report.
I think you will all agree that 2015 has been quite an exciting year, and the way things stand at present, the coming year looks like it's going to be even better. This is only possible, thanks to all the hard work put in by all the club officials.
The club's Velo Park 10's series, organised by our very reliable Joe Mumford ( whom we are very indebted to), was again a very successful series, in every way. The rider numbers were as high as last year, and all involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves. This series is a Very valuable income for the club, and needs the dedication of many members and officials, for it to be run. I sincerely thank everybody who was involved in it.
The road race scene has been very active throughout the year. Our riders have organised themselves very well, improving there fitness, getting places in races and consequently moving up to the next category. We are almost at a point, where we could take a team to Belgium. Where we could enter a team into a local criterium, with a possibility of getting a prime, ( just one). That should be enough to pay for a lot of the trip. Watch this Space.
I imagine that the road race secretaries report, wil concentrate on local racing. As for the track scene, I've given a detailed report under the track sec's report.
The time trial scene as been a little thin on the ground, due to injuries and pregnancies.
Trevor Whittock, last years champion has been off the bike this year. we hope to see him racing soon. Maybe next year.
But for our old faithful club TT rider Derek Trangmar, we would not have been able to award the Time trial championship trophy. Well done Derek. The roller racing series went well as it was it's first outing for many years.
The club runs have been well attended, similar to last year. There are 3 rides; Beginners 30 to 35 miles , our usual ride 50 to 80 miles in summer, shorter in winter.
And or training ride anything from 45 miles to 100 odd miles, and obviously faster. The social scene has also been very active and energetic, as I include The Tour of Flanders sportive within this category. All 12 members had a wonderful time.
The training camps were very successful and well attended.
The reunion was again a great success. Frida's food was as marvelous as ever. I can't remember The exact number of people, but there must have been about 60 people who attended.
Last but not least, the Club Lunch was a great success, all who were there, I'm sure had an enjoyable time. Special thanks to the club lunch sub committee, especially Emma and Carolyn.
Also all who helped on the day, and thank you Don for organising the presentation of the trophies. As I sign off, I would like to say thank you to all the members, officials and especially the Committee, for their efforts and hard work in making The Lea Valley CC. One of the best and more successful clubs on the Essex roads.
John Summerhayes.

It's happening.
As agreed at the AGM in December the club kit is to be redesigned. Charlie and Barnaby have worked up some designs for a new jersey based on the current design and the club's heritage.
The designs will , I hope , be uploaded here shorly. Let us know what you think of them and what you want from a club jersey.
The committee will , based on your views, make a decision about the new design in the first week of February.
We also need to find a supplier, work out it's cost and hopefully move
to online ordering...So let us know what you think.

The Len Cooper is the club’s annual road race for its members .It’s run in memory of one of our members who wanted to encourage more of us to take part in cycle racing. You don't need a BC licence to take part.
This year it's at the Redbridge Cycle Circuit at Hog Hill.
We meet at Hog Hill at 9.00am. The race will start at 9.30 and will last for 45 minutes plus 5 laps. We are using the lower circuit so the ascent of Hog Hill each lap will be avoided.
This year we are running the race under TLI rules. This means £5 to enter and £5 for a day licence.
Don’t worry if you haven’t raced before, just taking part is a great experience. It is a tradition that the first lap is the President’s lap, with no overtaking the President. After that you can overtake John as many times as you want! -

Morning all,
Instead of our club run we will be riding up to the Reunion at Burton End tomorrow .
There are two rides.
1) The chain gang will be leaving @ 9 . Jamie says they will be riding up to Cambridge back down to Burton End and home to London afterward
2) The "touring " group will be leaving at 9.30. John has promised us a route up the west side of the Lea. He say's he's taking us up through the Pelhams. That sounds like a Rambling Sid Rumpo song!So see you at the Town Hall on Forest Road at 9 or 9.30...

However, it appears that writer's block has set in.
I need some copy and some coffee.
So, if you want any items in the club newsletter then please send them to me . It comes out as an email so a paragraph or two should do with links back to blogs, here or FB for photo's or the longer version.
