Victoria CC run a series of four time trials on the final Saturday of the month in May, June, July and August. If you're one of our many relatively new members and thinking of trying out time trialing, these events would be ideal. The distance is nice and short - just 10.2 miles. You might think that's a strange distance - basically it's because it's more convenient for the time keepers to have the start and finish lines right next to each other, so the course is 0.2 miles longer than you might expect in order to accommodate that.
The course is the E1. This is a 'sporting course' (i.e. not a flat dual carriageway) based on a rolling B-road. You start in layby to the west of Saffron Walden / north of Audley End, then basically follow the B1383 north. At two villages (Littlebury and Great Chesterford) you bend right into the village and left out of it. There's a drag up to the turn at the Stumps Cross roundabout - here you go right round and take the fourth exit and retrace your steps back to where you started. It's not flat, but you can keep it in the big ring the whole way. If you've done one of our own 25-mile TTs on the E1 course, you'll have already ridden the entirety of the 10 course.
The event HQ is the Victoria CC 'hut'. They are one of the historically East London-based clubs (along with us, Eagle, Shaftesbury and a few others) who have club buildings up in northern Essex at Ugley (a bit north of Stansted Airport). Their hut is just round the corner from ours. If you drive up and park at the Lea Valley race HQ, just walk out, turn left and walk for two or three minutes and you'll see the Victoria one on the right. Here is how to find our race HQ: https://leavalleycc.microcosm.app/conversations/253853/
They are not just solo rider events. You can also enter a separate tandem competition or ride with a partner in a two-up or even do a three-up. See the attached file for details. To enter, go to the CTT website and in the 'District' filter choose 'London East': https://www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/find-events
Some (energetic) people even do the two-up at about 8am and then go again in the solo event at about 9am

Formatting Help
Don't worry about formatting, just type in the text and we'll take care of making sense of it. We will auto-convert links, and if you put asterisks around words we will make them bold.
Tips:
Create headers by underlining text with ==== or ----
To *italicise* text put one asterisk each side of the word
To **bold** text put two asterisks each side of the word
Embed images by entering: That's the hard one: exclamation, square brackets and then the URL to the image in brackets.
* Create lists by starting lines with asterisks
1. Create numbered lists by starting lines with a number and a dot
> Quote text by starting lines with >
Mention another user by @username
For syntax highlighting, surround the code block with three backticks:
```
Your code goes here
```
Just like Github, a blank line must precede a code block.
If you upload more than 5 files we will display all attachments as thumbnails.
